House Public Safety Committee Members Who Changed Their Open Carry Vote
I thought I'd take a little time to sort out who changed their vote on open carry on the House Public Safety Committee since the Committee Substitute was identical to last year's HB3354.
Rep. Pam Peterson (R) voted against HB3354 last year. While serving on the committee this year, she voted to recommend passage of the identical committee substitute. Was this vote a true vote, or was it insurance because it was known prior to the vote that the substitute would fail?
Rep. Doug Cox (R) and Rep. Charlie Joyner (R) voted for HB3354 last year. While serving on the committee this year, they voted against recommendation of passage to the identical committee substitute. Considering they didn't change their vote on last year's veto override, I believe that this committee vote shows their true position on open carry.
Rep. Chuck Hoskin (D) voted for HB3354 and then flipped his vote on the veto override attempt. On the committee, he voted against the identical committee substitute.
A copy of the committee vote and last year's May 4th journal have been attached to this post since the directory and file structure on the legislature's website has changed the last couple of years.
