My Votes in the GOP Primary
Here's the votes I will be casting for statewide offices in the Republican primary (because I am currently registered Republican).
Governor
Randy Brogdon. A few of my reasons are listed here and can also be seen in this pretty infographic.
Lieutenant Governor
John Wright. In addition to not having the charisma of Todd Lamb, he does not have the backing of the Republican establishment. In my view, this tips the balance of two fairly equal candidates.
Auditor
Gary Jones. Gary Jones ran for this office the last two election cycles and is highly likely to win the primary. I admit that I do not know much about his opponent. Gary Jones also helped to put the previous winner in prison for crimes committed while in office.
Attorney General
Scott Pruitt. This race could be really close as the two candidates are fairly similar. However, I think that Scott Pruitt's 8 years in the legislature will be an advantage in communication with legislators.
State Treasurer
Owen Laughlin. This was a simple choice. Here's Ken Miller's voting record: borrow $25 million for Oklahoma to fund a river entertainment district in Tulsa after Tulsa citizens had voted against a local tax, give the five owners of the OKC Thunder approximately $80 million via corporate welfare, and (my personal favorite) a sales tax exemption for building materials for Lake Texoma project developer Aubry McClendon. Additionally, Miller's involvement with Barry Switzer in the InsureNet spycam tax credit scam ($48 million in credits for a $5 million investment) really causes my blood to boil.
Superintendent of Public Instruction
Brian Kelly. Two reasons. First, he is an educator. Second, Janet Barresi appears to be looking to further a personal interest as a founder of two charter schools. I'm just going with a gut feeling here.
Commissioner of Labor
Jason Reese. While some may disagree with his stance on HB 1804 (Oklahoma's illegal immigration crackdown), he has taken note about how it has negatively affected Oklahoma's small businesses. He brings a welcome perspective to the table that supports fighting illegal immigration while also supporting legal immigration.
Insurance Commissioner
John Doak. John Doak is an experienced professional from the insurance industry. One of his opponents, John Crawford, has held this seat before but left in disgrace under an FBI investigation. His other opponent, Mark Croucher, is also deserving of a vote, but Doak's campaign has been much more active and I believe he will stand a much better chance of winning in November.
Corporation Commissioner
Dana Murphy. There isn't much that can be said here. Really. She is hands-down the best candidate for the job. Hell, she's even been known to pay for travel expenses that could have been put on that taxpayer's tab out of pocket.
