Obama Brings Hope and Change

The best evidence was put on display in the Brown/Coakley race in Massachusetts.  The last Republican to win a Senate race in Massachusetts, Edward Brooke, was just as liberal as most Democrats.  However, Brown's "out of nowhere" (according to the media) victory just goes to show how upset Massachusetts voters are with Obama's administration.  So maybe we can say that Obama has kept at least one campaign promise: "change we can believe in."

We are finally getting a little bit of hope.  At least now, there is less of a guarantee that healthcare reform will pass.  As we move closer to November, it will become even more difficult for your Congressman to cast a vote for healthcare because he simply won't be able to let it slip from your memory as easily.  Many in Congress are becoming increasingly nervous about re-election.  Some key players have even opted to "retire" after this term.  I believe that speaks quite loudly.

Even with Scott Brown's victory, Democrats still have quite a few ways to ram healthcare reform down our throats.  In addition to last year's 1400 page $787 Billion pork "stimulus," Obama has also proposed a new Consumer Financial Protection Agency that will administer even more regulation over our personal finance.  Add that to the other proposed expansions of government currently making their way through Congress under the radar, and you will have the largest expansion of government since the 1960's (and possibly even since the 1930's with FDR's "New Deal").

Just between healthcare and the stimulus, Obama will have already far surpassed George W. Bush's massive expansion of government, and that will be only the beginning.  Bush and Obama have this in common when it comes to being able to expand government without much difficulty: both had united Legislative and Executive branches during or shortly after a crisis.  (Remember, never let a crisis go to waste.)

Once an expansion of government becomes a reality, it is very difficult to reverse.  We are still victim to many dubious policies of the Great Depression, including Social Security, agricultural subsidies and agricultural output restrictions (see Wickard vs. Filburn), minimum wage, etc.  (By the way, many of these policies are reasons why FDR's socialist policies prolonged and worsened the Great Depression.)

The People need to realize that letting government meddle even more in their lives, while spending more than their tax revenues uncontrollably, can only end bad.  Right now, the main catalyst to the massive expansion of government during the Clinton, Bush, and Obama administrations is the overall ignorance of the People.  When the People finally wake up and realize that their country is crumbling around them, only then will we be able to see the "hope" that was promised.
