SQ744 Supporters Getting Dirty

By Brian Altenhofel - Posted on 24 August 2010

Supporters of Oklahoma's State Question 744 have a so-called fact-checking site. (They don't deserve an ounce of linkjuice from me.)

I have never seen a political website so full of blatant half-lies. I call them half, because technically they are true, but really they are lies.

For example, the website states that "SQ 744 does not mandate cuts in other state services." Technically they're right, it doesn't mandate cuts in state services. The website also says that "SQ 744 DOES NOT impose or raise any taxes." Once again, technically they're right.

However, the measure does not specify at all where the increase in funding for education is supposed to come from. Guess what? There are only TWO ways to do that: cut other state services or raise taxes.

See the truth now?

Who is really being honest with you?

It should be fairly obvious now. SQ 744 is built on passing off lies as technical truths because "it's for the children." You have to wonder where their head is at, because obviously the fumes are getting to them.

They also state that "SQ 744 DOES put the power to make our kids and schools a priority into the hands of THE PEOPLE of Oklahoma." Once again, technically they are right because Oklahomans will have the power to vote on November 2, 2010, for or against this measure. If the voter has even an ounce of common sense, they will vote NO. The truth is that vote in favor of SQ 744 defers the power of our legislators to decide our budget to those of other states.
