Well, THAT Was Quick!
From the LA Times:
Lawmakers on Thursday night changed the language to require scrutiny only of people who police stop, detain or arrest. They also changed a section of the bill that barred officers from “solely” using race as grounds for suspecting someone is in the country illegally; opponents had argued that that would allow race to be a factor. The legislators removed the word “solely” to bar race from being used by officers enforcing the law.
They also changed the language "lawful contact" to "lawful stop, detention, or arrest" to reenforce that officers could not question a victim's or witness's legal status.
That's reassuring. We now have better clarification on the intents of this law.
However, I still see a federal lawsuit coming from Eric Holder because it is specifically the duty of the federal government to handle the naturalization of citizens. Even though they are shirking this duty, it is not not the place of the States to handle that. But, as I said before, their suit will be based on a misunderstanding of the facts.
