More Evidence That Heller and McDonald are Bad for Gun Rights

On Friday, the Third Circuit issued a ruling that the federal law barring the possession of unmarked firearms passes Constitutional muster. The case is United States v. Marzzarella.

Here's a interesting passage from the opinion:

"...because § 922(k) is designed to regulate the commercial sale of firearms and to prevent possession by a class of presumptively dangerous individuals, it is analogous to several longstanding limitations on the right to bear arms identified as presumptively valid in Heller."

Rep. Anthony Weiner Speaks His Mind

This one has made much better choices in which drugs to take before speaking than his colleagues.

Is Randy Brogdon a Sore Loser?

That's the question that many other bloggers are asking. Some are going so far as to even paint him as a sore loser.

Why? Because he has not immediately endorsed Mary Fallin for Governor.

These bloggers that supported Randy Brogdon are showing their true colors. They claimed to support his platform of smaller government, yet have no hesitations in supporting a candidate who has made active efforts to grow the government. They claimed to support his platform of restoring freedom to the people and the states, yet have no hesitations in supporting a candidate who has made active efforts to usurp such freedoms.

Judge Orders Injunction Against Certain Parts of SB 1070

From the Arizona Republic:

Key parts of SB 1070 that will not go into effect Thursday:

• The portion of the law that requires an officer make a reasonable attempt to determine the immigration status of a person stopped, detained or arrested if there's reasonable suspicion they're in the country illegally.

• The portion that creates a crime of failure to apply for or carry "alien-registration papers."

• The portion that makes it a crime for illegal immigrants to solicit, apply for or perform work. (This does not include the section on day laborers.)

My Votes in the GOP Primary

Here's the votes I will be casting for statewide offices in the Republican primary (because I am currently registered Republican).

Governor

Randy Brogdon. A few of my reasons are listed here and can also be seen in this pretty infographic.

Lieutenant Governor

John Wright. In addition to not having the charisma of Todd Lamb, he does not have the backing of the Republican establishment. In my view, this tips the balance of two fairly equal candidates.

Barresi Seems to Want to Buy the Office of State Superintendent

I like to poke around at FollowTheMoney.org quite a bit, and I noticed something kind of startling. In the Oklahoma race for Superintendent of Public Education, Republican Janet Barresi has raised a total of $706,729. While that is a very large sum for that office, what really stands out is the amount of self-financing: $550,000.

That's a half-million just for the primary election. That half-million is not only almost 78% of her own campaign's fundraising, but it is also nearly 4% of the campaign contributions to ALL candidates across the ENTIRE state.

WikiLeaks Posts 90,000 Military Records From Afghanistan

WikiLeaks posted 90,000 documents relating to the war in Afghanistan earlier today. You can check out the Afghan War Diary here.

You might recall that back in April they released a 17 minute video from an U.S. Army helicopter showing the troops firing into a crowd that had gathered around a Reuters reporter and then attacking the van that had come to rescue the wounded.

Ford Announces 5th Consecutive Quarter of Profits

Back in 2008, when Congress started dishing out its round of bailouts for industries "too big to fail", Ford decided at the last minute to decline a "loan" from the government and reconsider its businesses practices itself (even without bankruptcy).

Now, while GM (should stand for Government Motors now) has 60% of its company under Uncle Sam's control, and 10% of Chrysler is owned by the federal government, Ford is still an independent corporation and has recently concluded its fifth consecutive profitable quarter.

Next time Uncle Sam comes with an offer to "bail out" a company or industry it deems too big to fail, keep Ford in mind as proof that the private sector can fend for itself if it is willing.
