Judge Orders Injunction Against Certain Parts of SB 1070

From the Arizona Republic:

Key parts of SB 1070 that will not go into effect Thursday:

• The portion of the law that requires an officer make a reasonable attempt to determine the immigration status of a person stopped, detained or arrested if there's reasonable suspicion they're in the country illegally.

• The portion that creates a crime of failure to apply for or carry "alien-registration papers."

• The portion that makes it a crime for illegal immigrants to solicit, apply for or perform work. (This does not include the section on day laborers.)

US DOJ Lawsuit Against Arizona's SB 1070 to be Filed Today

This should get pretty interesting.  Maybe Eric Holder and his buddies actually researched the facts before coming up with their lawsuit.

History tells me that, right or wrong, the opinion of the court will be in favor of stronger federal government.

War With Mexico Spreading to Oklahoma

From NewsOK:

Drug agents arrested a suspected high-ranking Mexican Sinaloa Cartel member in north Oklahoma City this morning during a raid an Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics official said will send shock waves through the law enforcement community.

The target — a 35-year-old Mexican national — represents the strongest evidence to date that the Sinaloa Cartel is trying to establish a foothold in Oklahoma City, which has traditionally been the territory of the equally notorious Juarez Cartel, OBN Executive Director Darrell Weaver said.

The suspect's name as well as the names of others arrested during the sting operation is being withheld because of sealed warrants, OBN spokesman Mark Woodward said. The investigation is ongoing.

Kyl: Ms. Peggy West, Class is in Session

Senator John Kyl sent a letter to Milwaukee County Board Supervisor Peggy West to educate her a little bit on the Geography of the United States.  If you didn't know, West is one of the leaders of the movement to boycott Arizona over their immigration enforcement law.

L.A. Teacher Calls for Mexican Revolt in the U.S.

This dude's speech reminds me of some of the Ku Klux Klan speeches I remember reading about in high school in terms of the amount of racism that is laced throughout.  Of course, it makes perfect since when you find out that "La Raza" is Spanish for "The Race."

Well, THAT Was Quick!

From the LA Times:

Lawmakers on Thursday night changed the language to require scrutiny only of people who police stop, detain or arrest. They also changed a section of the bill that barred officers from “solely” using race as grounds for suspecting someone is in the country illegally; opponents had argued that that would allow race to be a factor. The legislators removed the word “solely” to bar race from being used by officers enforcing the law.

They also changed the language "lawful contact" to "lawful stop, detention, or arrest" to reenforce that officers could not question a victim's or witness's legal status.

That's reassuring.  We now have better clarification on the intents of this law.

The Facts About the Arizona "Racial Profiling" Law

Those of you who know me or have read this blog much might have caught on that I like to disregard what the mainstream media (including, GASP, FoxNews) says and focus on research the facts of a particular issue.

There have been many stories posted online, aired on TV, and discussed on the radio about the new anti-immigration law passed in Arizona, SB 1070.  As can be expected, all of these stories conform to that particular presenter's agenda and only give the relevant information to support said agenda.  Even then, some of these stories can distort the truth or (worse) present false claims.

For what it's worth, I subscribe to nearly 100 news sites and blogs in my RSS reader from the Left, the Right, and the Middle.  A quick search for "Arizona" or "1070" yields mostly results from the Left (and, the overwhelming majority are from Huffington Post).
